WHO WE ARE

True Technique is a smart functional strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation training facility, providing large and small group coaching where movement quality comes first. From the humble beginnings of a rookie personal trainer in 2011, Tim Sunderland has evolved in his career and passion in pursuit of an obsession with all things movement. After working from conventional gyms for almost 7 years, Tim noticed a frightening trend toward common injuries within the fitness industry. He realised pain and injury correlated with lack of motivation and commitment to daily exercise and began his pursuit into the world of functional training.

Every day is a party at TT!

STRENGTH CLASS

Correcting and strengthening our primal and functional movement patterns: The Squat, Hinge, Lunge, Twist, Push, Pull, and Walk.

CONDITIONING CIRCUITS

Designed to work some different functional training movements with a variety of training tools and methods.

MOVE & PLAY


The Move & Play class is where we experiment with our bodies movement and bring back how we moved as a child.

FAST FITNESS FRIDAY

Fast Fitness is a hard and fast cardio workout thatโ€™ll have muscles burning and lungs working.

SOCIAL SATURDAY

Every Saturday is a fun challenging circuit for all members and friends of members can come for free.

    5 star review  I joined True Technique because I wanted to try something different and to challenge myself. I have definitely done both!
    In this environment I have felt that I can exercise with a real focus on form and safety which is really important to me.
    I have also tried so many new things and been pushed out of my comfort zone! I have discovered muscles I didn't know existed along the way!
    You will laugh, scream in frustration at times...๐Ÿ˜‚ but you will have FUN along the way!!!!

    5 star review  I met Tim through the FTI mobility and FX courses. His knowledge on imbalances, stability and mobility in the body inspired me to change my training focus.
    If you're looking to find the true meaning behind functional training, definitely get into True Technique and become inspired too.

  • positive review  Iโ€™ve been meaning to write a review for ages. I canโ€™t speak highly enough of the next level coaching Iโ€™ve received at TT. After hip surgery I couldnโ€™t do a weighted squat or lunge to depth pain free but with Tim and Danโ€™s extensive, up to date knowledge and experience, they had me doing so in no time. Every time I train Iโ€™m learning something new which I love, both in correct technique and new skills. This is a holistic approach to training designed for longevity of fitness. Whitney is one awesome gymnastic coach. Her ability to communicate body awareness and skills I never dreamed I could do are outstanding and super motivating. So glad I found these guys, not just for the great programming but for the awesome people they are. The personal attention given by each coach and the awesome members of TT make for a really welcoming and inclusive environment.

    5 star review  In 2017 I ruptured my Achillesโ€™ tendon. After 3 months in plaster and a moonboot I started training with Tim. He helped regain strength and mobility not only in my leg but my entire body. I really enjoy working with Tim and canโ€™t wait for the new gym to open.

    positive review  I have been a member at a couple of gyms locally including a functional training gym and have to say the attention, support and correction of technique from Tim Sunderland Dan Carter & Whitney are brilliant to say the least. The guys at TT are so incredibly patient, professional and knowledgeable I haven't trained anywhere that is even close to comparing. I have a muscular issue that I was considering surgery to repair but feel confident that training at TT will assist in it potential repairing itself to the point of not needing surgery. If you are contemplating a change in your current gym - I cannot recommend TT highly enough.

  • positive review  I started my fitness journey at True Technique this morning and I think I am in love!!! I chose True Technique because their philosophy aligned with my personal values and ethos. My long term goals are fitness, strength and full body toning and short term I want to decrease my cortisol/stress, sleep better, keep my mental health in check and establish an excercise routine that will stay with me for life not be just a passing phase. The staff I have met so far are very supportive, knowlegable and inspiring (Dan, Tim & Whitney). The feel of the place is positive, inclusive, non-judgemental and fun. The other participants are diverse and friendly, I felt like I immediately fit in and was accepted with love and support. Everyone wants to help you to achieve your goals and better yourself. The instruction is personalised as you are in a small group and the right technique is the main focus meaning you get results quickly and prevent injury.
    This place rocks and if you are considering starting your exercise journey I highly recommend True Technique, you will not regret it. I encourage you to bite the bullet, swallow that anxiety, doubt, nerves and negative self talk and get into True Technique and give it a go. You will be addicted after the first session, I promise!!!

    5 star review  Just finished our first session with Coach Tim and Anthony and WOW! What an hour! We fit so much in and the training is the kind that matters...
    The variety of training is suitable for all levels and really wakes you up! I am pretty pumped for more! The team and members are so supportive and the scent of yummy coffee from next door is pretty good motivation too ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ

    positive review  "Growth Mindset" - I joined True Technique 'family' because I was driving along Rainbow Street and saw Tim and Whit doing L sits into handstands out the front. Working hard but having fun at the same time...this got me in the front door. What I have come to love is the acceptance of where you are at with your fitness journey and the individual isolation and feedback provided during exercises. I love how I can relate to the coaches and have a laugh during the sessions - real people who motivate your potential and call it how it is. In a short 5 week period, my mindset to my own physicality and growth mindset has changed dramatically. I have learned so much about humility also, with past poor technique being unlearned and new movement patterns and function being learned.

    positive review  Since joining True Technique I have noticed results very quickly. I have become fitter, stronger and am pain free. Tim takes the time to correct your form and is extremely educated in what he does! He has created such rapport with all his members and we have with one another it's like a family! Highly recommend.

  • 5 star review  I met and stared training with Tim about 3 years ago when I joined a gym for the very first time in my life at the age of 48. I never thought I would get excited about exercising but Tim makes every session fun and exciting and he pushes me to the limit. He has taught me so much about exercising and that it is not just about losing weight but it's making sure you have a plan and your doing it safely. He puts in a lot of effort and energy into making sure everyone has a tailored plan depending on what they need. I can't wait to try out his new gym and learn a lot more from Tim.

    positive review  Finding high quality personal trainers in this unregulated industry can be very challenging to say the least - especially if you have a lot of old โ€œwar woundsโ€.

    True Techniqueโ€™s highly skilled trainers, their (flexible) functional movement training focus, and boutique classes have made routine exercise sustainable and enjoyable, with fantastic support!
    No more wasted gym memberships for me!
    Canโ€™t recommend them highly enough!
